Replace electric shower with a mixer?

Posted by Jill Formston, on
I currently have an electric shower. Is it easy enough to replace this with a mixer shower?

Changing from an electric shower to a standard bath/shower mixer is a simple procedure. The question is whether the pressure you get from the bath has enough pressure to run a sufficient shower. Also is the hot water pressure and cold water pressure almost the same. If they aren't the cold water could overpower the hot water and you end up with a cold or lukewarm shower. I suspect the plumbing system you have will not support a bath/shower mixer and this is the reason an electric shower was installed in the first place. If this is the case installing a new electric shower may be the easiest solution if you are having problems with your existing one.

hi jill an electric shower only has a cold feed a mixer requires a hot and a cold feed its not that hard a job if you have a combi boiler , a mixer will be a lot more powerful than your existing electric shower if you do not have a combi and you want to fit a mixer shower you need a cold feed from your storage tank usually in the loft and a separate hot feed from your hot water cylinder a bit more work and materials required also if the wall the shower is going on is tiles you may require some more tiles to make good etc i would recommend you post your job on this site and get an expert to have a look and give you a quote .I hope this has helped kind regards Alistair Ewen
