Furloughed workers and incomplete project - what can we do?

Posted by E Elliott, on
Hello - we are in the process of having our main bathroom renovated, which started just before the UK lockdown. We, and the company we are using, agreed to go ahead, as all were fit and healthy. There have been a few hiccups and a couple of days lost, meaning that only the basic plumbing and plastering has been completed. The trades people we are using have all been 'furloughed' by the company; meaning that we are now left with a shell of a room, with a temporary bath plumbed in for us to be able to wash (we are a family of two adults and two young children). We have tried to contact the owner of the company but had no response, and the tradespeople are advising that they may not be back until June/July, potentially later. I would like to know if we can break our agreement with the company, pay for the work they have done up to now, and hopefully source other tradespeople to help us complete the bathroom? We would need a plumber, bathroom fitter, tiler and electrician. Any help or advice would be welcomed.

What would you like to do now?
