Old washing machine waste pipe

Posted by Heather Lee, on
When we moved to our house 18 years ago we placed our new washing machine where the previous owner had had hers. There was an old plastic pipe sticking up from the floor. We placed our washing machine in front of it to avoid disturbing it. Fast forward in time and we have a just received a new washing machine which is deeper than the old one by almost 6 inches, thus protruding into the kitchen. Can we cut that old pipe down to floor level, put a drainage cap on it and move the new washing machine over it? Please help.
