Unexpectedly shiny travertine

Posted by Coleen Hallmark, on
Hi! We've recently had a pool installed and the surrounding decking is NYSA tumbled travertine pavers which, are absolutely beautiful but, we are surprised (and delighted) by it's shiny, reflective surface. I was under the impression that tumbled travertine would have a dull finish and, sometimes, it does but sometimes, it is very reflective of the sun, fence posts, etc... I can't find anything online to account for this, is it a natural property of the stone? Also, my husband noticed a glittery property in some of the stones this morning. Is that what is causing it? If not, what minerals are in travertine that cause that glittery aspect. I really would appreciate any information that you can provide! Thank you!
