Top kitchen trends of 2021
Our kitchens are the hubs of our homes. So, it’s no surprise that a newly renovated one will not only improve your cooking experience, but it could also increase your home’s value by over £10,000 (according to The Rated People Home Improvement Trends Report: 2021). We spoke to Abdul, owner of Xperie Ltd, to hear about 5 of the most interesting kitchen design trends of this year.
After watching the video, discover some of the ways that you can implement each of the trends mentioned in your kitchen, below.
Contrasting colours
Bold kitchen colours are in this year – from dark grey to light blue and even black. Two tone kitchens are a great way to implement bold colours tastefully. Find the best colour combination for your kitchen by checking out examples online and seeing which shades catch your eye – Pinterest can be great for that.
Skip to 0:08 in the video to hear how Abdul uses modern fixtures to tie colours in a kitchen together.
Multipurpose kitchen islands
Kitchen islands are ideal for creating extra surface space in small and large kitchens alike. But, as Abdul says at 0:39 in the video, they’re also a perfect area for socialising as well as working from home.
If you’re planning on revamping your kitchen workspace, consider how it’ll look in the background of your video calls. You could opt for a trendy exposed brick wall to add some character to your meetings. Or, hang open shelves with sleek kitchen ornaments and utensils for a practical look.
Eye-catching lighting
At 01:12 in the video, Abdul recommends having as much light as possible in your kitchen. There are many lighting solutions that’ll improve your kitchen’s functionality whilst also modernising its look, including:
- LED drawer lights that help you to see deep inside the drawers.
- A skylight to add natural overhead light that’s perfect for cooking.
- Mood lights which add ambience to your kitchen – ideal for when you’re hosting guests.
Smart storage
The minimalist look is one of the most popular kitchen trends in 2021. That doesn’t mean you have to miss out on storage space, though. Wall hung knife racks, boiling water taps and pull-out bins (as Abdul shows at 01:53 in the video) are just a few examples of smart kitchen storage ideas.
Unique flooring
From tiles to laminate, there are lots of flooring types that’ll suit your kitchen’s style and budget. Personalise your space with a unique combination of flooring styles, like the tile and wood combination that Abdul shows at 02:41 in the video, flawlessly installed by a local floor fitter.
