The average cost of a new kitchen in 2023 is between £5,000 and £12,000.
On average, homeowners pay between £5,000 and £12,000 for a new kitchen, which takes roughly 2 weeks to fit.
Each kitchen renovation project has its own cost parameter, based on your choice of materials, the size of your kitchen, where you live in the UK, and how many things you want to buy and have installed.
For example, you might pay around £6,900 for a new 10m2 kitchen which includes:
- Strip out of existing kitchen and appliances
- All plumbing and heating costs to install kitchen sink and dishwasher
- Labour and material costs for electrics

How much does a new kitchen worktop cost?
A new kitchen worktop will cost you between £250 and £1,800 to buy and install, depending on what material you want your worktop to be made out of. Laminate worktops will cost you the least, whereas marble, glass, and copper are the most expensive worktops to buy and install.
How much a new kitchen worktop will cost you depends on what materials you choose to buy. The range is endless, but the most popular are quartz, laminate, wood, and granite.

Prices will go up if you want a more intricate cutting for your worktop, like if you want to fit a worktop around a hob or sink. On average, worktops take between 3 and 5 hours to install.

Upstands are extensions that you can get on top of your worktop, and that rise up the wall behind worksurfaces. They prevent liquids from running down the back of your cabinets by sealing off the gap between your wall and your worktop.
They’re also quite useful because they’re easier to clean than your walls, and act as a protective layer that catches splashes and stains well. Unlike splashbacks, which usually cover more of your wall, upstands tend to be under 200mm long.
If you do want to add an upstand, then you’ll need to factor in around £150 – £370 for the price of the upstand and installation. It should take no more than 5 hours to fit.

Like worktops, new cabinets can revitalise your kitchen. Your options are endless, with cabinets coming in a huge range of styles, sizes, and colours.
The cost of your cabinet installations will be affected by:

Budget kitchen units cost around £25 – £70 per base cabinet, whilst wall units cost around £25 – £50, depending on size. If you have a small budget for cabinets, you might want to think about buying flat-pack units, available at most DIY stores.
On average, a new, 500mm high-gloss cabinet will cost you between £80 and £100. Other premium quality cabinets include:

Can I just replace the doors on my kitchen cabinets?
Instead of replacing your cabinets entirely, you might want to consider leaving them and only changing the doors instead. This is cheaper and requires less work than removing and installing new ones.
For 8 new cabinet doors, you could spend around £500 (£100 – £150 for daily labour costs and between £280 – £320 for materials). It will take a skilled tradesperson between 1 and 2 days to change the doors on your units.

How much does it cost to install underfloor heating?
Kitchen underfloor heating costs between £1,200 and £5,000, depending on the type of underfloor heating you want installed, and the size of the floor you want fitted.
If you are thinking of getting underfloor heating, doing it during your kitchen renovation is a good idea as it needs to be installed first, before you can lay down everything else.
If you are renovating your home, then electric underfloor heating might be a better option than wet underfloor heating. This is because wet underfloor systems are usually installed in new build properties and big scale renovations. Electric heating is also cheaper and easier to install.

Kitchen sockets usually go above or below your worktops. The ones that go above are used for appliances like your microwave and kettle, whilst those below (under unit socket outlets) are used for fixed or free-standing appliances like your fridge and washing machine.
