Sadly, the plumbers I engaged turned out to lack competence. They changed a faulty thermostat on the immersion heater, but failed twice to reconnect it correctly. I fixed it myself in the end. One operative could not correctly name the thermostat, insisting it was instead the heating element. Poor show, and won't use them again.
